A Museum Documenting History of Madinah:
The museum is a major destination for visitors of the Prophet’s Mosque because it contains a historical material that helps visitors visualize the stages of expansion and architecture of the Prophet’s Mosque down the ages, through various types of media. The museum is one of the services provided by the Presidency of the Prophet’s Mosque Affairs.
It is located in the southern courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque, and covers an area of 2,200 square meters. A number of qualified guides receive visitors, and provide content in Arabic, Urdu and English. Visual and text presentations are offered in 12 languages, along with audio translation utilizing state-of-the-art technology.
Enriching Visitors' Knowledge:
The Museum is an emblem of historical and cultural heritage that enriches visitors' experiences, as they learn about the history of the Prophet’s Mosque, which extends for more than 1,400 years: from its inception during the Prophet’s lifetime through the present Saudi era.
Visitors are introduced to the features and status of the Prophet’s Mosque, and the honor associated with building it. The museum raises the visitors' cultural civilizational awareness.
Visitors also get acquainted with the landmarks of the Prophet’s Mosque, such as the pulpit, the mihrab, domes, umbrellas, gates, minarets, squares, and a number of other services that are provided to visitors of the Prophet’s Mosque.
The Museum Today:
At present, the museum is one of the top destinations for visitors of the Prophet’s Mosque. It is equipped by various multimedia technologies to ensure visitors benefit from visual, written and audio materials in its full capacity. The introductory tour takes approximately 40 minutes. The museum receives 30 visitors in each tour.
Visiting Times:
The exhibition receives visitors from Saturday through Thursday. It is open from 7:00 am to 12:00 noon, and from 4:00 pm to 10 pm.
