Bani Haritha Mosque

An Overview:

It is a prophetic prayer ground in Bani Haritha area where the Prophet (ﷺ) took a rest in his way back to Madinah from the Battle of Uhud. It was renovated and expanded in a modern style during the reign of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz.

Its Names:

It is called Bani Haritha Mosque because it is located in the quarters of Bani Haritha, a subtribe of the Ansar.

It is also called Al-Mustarah Mosque (the resting place mosque) because the Prophet(ﷺ) took rest in this place on his way back from the Battle of Uhud.

Its History:

The mosque was built during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). While the people of Banu Haritha were performing Asr prayer in it, the order came to them to change the

qibla

to the Sacred Mosque of Makkah.

Owing to its historical importance, it was expanded and renovated in a modern style during the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Getting to the Mosque:

The mosque is located to the northwest of the Prophet’s Mosque on Sayyid Al-Shuhada Road, 300 meters after the al-Sheikhain Mosque. It is 2.5 km away from the Prophet’s Mosque.
